Rise and Grind to Brunch!

[Updated 14/03/2016]
Here’s a new spot to go for café-hopping this weekend: Rise & Grind!
Rise & Grind is a spin off from “rise and shine” and means to get out of bed and start the daily “grind” (work). Well, it would definitely be a good start for the day with brunch at Rise & Grind.
Some eggs and toast sure makes a good morning breakfast, isn’t it?
Avocado Toast ($12) – avocado, poached eggs, tomatoes, feta cheese and mushrooms. The egg is beautifully poached and the avocado and tomatoes was very fresh.
We also had a dish from their mains menu (available after 12pm) – mainly pasta and their RGC signature burger.
We order the creamy mentaiko prawn pasta ($16) for sharing. It comprises of grilled prawn, mentaiko cream and angel hair pasta. It was a pretty interesting combination; the noodle has a texture somewhere between that of longevity noodle and beehoon. However, the cream tends to dry up pretty fast. So, eat it quick when served.
We were pleasantly surprised to learn that hummingbird cake was offered here as one of the many sweet treats. If it is your first time hearing a hummingbird cake, it is basically reminiscent of both banana cake and carrot cake. A delicious combination of banana pineapple spiced cake with shredded coconut gratings atop the luscious sweet and tangy cream cheese frosting. The cake was moist, decadent but not overly sweet and goes pretty well with a cup of hot coffee or tea.
In all, Rise & Grind serve up delectable brunch, mains and desserts that is worth a try – The Ocean’s Thirteen (Smoked salmon eggs benedict) is so Instagram-worthy! For those who came from afar, a day of café-hopping to nearby cafes such as Binggojung, Necessary Provisions, Revelry, Carpenter & Cook, Nook Pancake and Hambaobao would prove fulfilling yeah?
