[Original Post] Flashback to the JB trip last weekend and the Sangkaya’s newest outlet at Mount Austin was our 4th stop of the day.
Imagine how excited I was when I knew this was one of the pitstop for our café-hop. I was looking forward to trying Sangkaya given the missed opportunity to eat this during my Melaka trip earlier this year.
Sangkaya ice cream prides itself in coconut ice cream made without milk and egg in its ingredients.
We were greeting with fresh coconut aroma upon stepping foot into the shop. We opted for the Premium Coconut Ice Cream (RM 9.90 ~ SGD 3.30) mixed with Cha Yen thai milk tea ice cream that is served in a fresh coconut husk (4 mini scoops). Toppings are D.I.Y (includes roasted peanuts, chocolate sauce) and we chose sweet corns, kidney beans, coconut flakes.
Ice cream was not as smooth as gelato but still rich in coconut taste and refreshing. We particularly love pairing the ice cream with the scraped out coconut flesh by the side. And can we have sticky rice as one of the toppings option?
We also ordered the Classic Chendol (RM9.90 ~ SGD 3.30) that is new on the menu. Well it isn’t exactly something new as we are all but too familiar to us – Chendol.
Strips of sweet coconut flesh, GULA Melaka (of course lah) and roasted peanuts are found in the cup of creamy chendol. Not that is isn’t good, but I would prefer to have a bowl (or two) of chendol anytime over this.
If you are NUTS ABOUT COCONUTS or have yet to try the coconut ice cream in Chatuchak, do drop by Sangkaya Mount Austin to give it a try!
P.S. This was the better ice cream that we had that day as compared to Lis Gelato
