Flowers in the Window – A secret garden cafe in Johor Bahru, JB

Entrance of the café
The facelifted Roost was renamed Flowers in the Window boosting an indoor garden with floral decorations (flowers and plants), that made it stood out along the now café-infested Jalan Trus. It was an unique and whimsical experience in the garden setting of the café with high ceilings (2-storey) and an open kitchen.

Bread galore at the counter
Menu are well divided – brunch, bread (sourdough), mains, sides and cakes (from the counter).

Menu
We tried the Pan fried salmon with a cous-cous superfood salad (RM 24), a colorful plate isn’t it? Did you see the salmon on a bed of “flowers”? The “flowers” made up of shredded carrots, lettuce, quinoa couscous, quail eggs, cherry tomatoes, zucchini and walnuts. We loved the pan-seared salmon that has a buttery soft texture but the “flowers” didn’t work for us, not that it was inedible (HAHA) but needs more watering in the form of vinaigrette dressing.
Apart from the cold pressed juices which are available at SEA & SAW as well, one of the highlights at Flowers in the Window is the range of herb & spice infused soda drinks.

Rosemary, chili and lemon – it doesn’t look red hor!
Rosemary, Chili and Lemon (RM12.90): refreshing to me but not to my cousin. The choice of chili in a drink sure sounds daunting and I guess you have to try and see if you like it. For the less adventurous, there are less exotic options such as Cinnamon Orange Pulp and Basil, green apple and cucumber are available as well.
We opted for the Carrot Cake (RM 9) that was moist, chunky and dense with raisins and walnuts. This was good but Hiap Joo Bakery Banana Cake (around the corner) would be my perfect choice of after meal dessert anytime!

Hiap Joo Bakery BANANA CAKE!
Flowers in the Window scores high for its stunning flowery and greenery theme, like a secret garden behind closed door (window) but the food could do some tweaking. We hope for better food when we return to dine with nature again!
