Hearty Katsu Curry Rice at Washoku Goen, Clifford Centre
I guess Wahsoku Goen needs no further introduction with its HUGE generous portion of Katsu Curry Rice that will satisfy your huge appetite.
Ultimate Original Curry Rice ($19.90) – Platter of fish katsu, chicken katsu, beef sumibi, potato croquetto, hardboiled egg doused with curry on a bed of rice. Unless you are a super big eater, this platter could be well shared between 3 to 4 pax while enjoying a mixed variety of meats. Our favourite are the succulent thinly sliced beef, “the thorn among the roses (fried items)”
Tonpei Original Curry Rice ($6.80) and Mushidori Curry Rice ($7.80) are the two new items introduced at this outlet. The former a pork stuffed omelette and the latter, steamed chicken in local hainanese chicken rice with curry lathered over.
Tonpei Original Curry Rice: Pork stuffed Omelette, drizzled with mayonnaise and okonomiyaki sauce This would probably be a hit with the health conscious – chunks of chewy char siew beautifully encased within the curry egg omelette rice at a very affordable price of $6.80! We would gladly go back for this anytime!
Other than Curry Rice, udon & ramen are available at Washoku GOEN as well at prices of below $11. We had the Tonkotsu Special Ramen served with two slices of char siew and a hardboiled egg. We felt that the ingredients failed to converge to something special; soup could be more robust in flavour and noodles could be springier. We say, stick to their curry rice or top up a few dollars and get yourself to Ramen Kesuike Kani or Ramen Keisuke Lobster for ramen.
Located smack in the CBD, Washoku Goen offers an alternative value-for-money lunch option for hearty Japanese food.
